For those who are already confident in open water this AIDA 2 Star course is your starting point.

On completion you receive a certification by AIDA, the worldwide industry standard for freedivers.

Price includes, all equipment, course materials, certifications and pool fees. Entrance fees to dive site are charged separately if applicable.

AIDA 2 STAR course is 3 days and consists of 2 x theory sessions, 1 x pool session and 3 x open water dives.

Participance have to be 18 years of age or older, medically fit and be able to swim at least 200 metres non-stop and 300 metres with mask, snorkel and fins.

The course is in two parts – POOL & THEORY and OPEN WATER (See Below). When both parts are completed you are a fully qualified AIDA 2 Star Freediver, however you can become an AIDA 2 Star POOL Freediver and this alows you to participate in our weekly pool sessions. This course is not aimed towards competitive freediving but for recreational freediving only.

Just about everyone who signs up on this course surprises themselves with what they achieve. You will be amazed how much difference just a small amount of training can make to your breath-hold time and dive depth.

Day 1: Pool & Theory

We start by doing theory, either online initially or straight into the classroom. We then go to the swimming pool where we cover Static and Dynamic Apnea and cover how to safety each other and rescues so that you can start to dive in our established club structure.

Even the most experienced swimmers, snorkellers and scuba divers are surprised how much they learn in this entry level course, it’s not just about holding your breath!

  • Certification:
AIDA 2 Star – Pool Freediver.
Allows you to dive with the club in the pool environment.
  • Duration:
    1 Day
  • Day 1:
Knowledge development (classroom theory), Static Apnea and Dynamic Apnea (pool).
  • Equipment:
Swimming kit and comfortable clothes. All freediving equipment used during the course will be provided.
  • Requirements:

Day 2 & 3: Open water

You are elligible to join the AIDA 2 Star OPEN WATER section after having done the AIDA 2 Star POOL & THEORY.

The Open water section of the course is run over two days in Open Water. This will take the diver down to a depth of between 14 metres and 20 metres depending on the time of year and the students needs. Many Instructors are teaching this part of the course in one day as this is a minimum standard. I believe the student is better served in Open Water over two days. However, If you require to finish over one weekend that is possible.

If you do not pass the course I always offer at least one additional days training, at no extra cost before we start charging extra, or offer the AIDA 1 STAR Freediver qualification to get you onto the ladder.

So to clarify, if you do the AIDA 2 STAR course and do not complete in the required minimum two days, or the recomended three days, I will give you a fourth day free before we start charging any extra.

  • Certification:
    AIDA 2 Star – Freediver.
Allows you to dive to a maximum depth of 20m with an independent buddy or professional guide.
  • Duration:
    1-2 Days
  • Day 1:
Open Water Sessions, Constant weight and Free Immersion.
  • Day 2:
Further Open Water Sessions, Constant weight and Free Immersion followed by AIDA 2 STAR Exam.
  • Equipment:
All freediving equipment used during the course will be provided and included in the price.
  • Dive site fees:
Payable to the site if applicable.
  • Requirements:
Be 18 years or older, have completed the medical statement and be able to swim at least 100 metres non-stop and 300 metres with mask, snorkel and fins.
  • Price: £150

Freediving, when practised properly, is a very safe sport. However there are risks so always dive with the supervision of a QUALIFIED and competent buddy.

Never hold your breath alone, even in water as shallow as your bath. Someone needs to be there who knows exactly what they are looking for and what to do in case of a blackout. A casual observer or even a lifeguard who hasn’t been specifically trained in apnea would not be suitable.

Are there any hidden cost?

Course fees include pool fees, equipment, the certification costs are covered when the open water section is paid for, and you can pay extra for certification at pool level if you choose. Open water fees are not included, some sites are free, some charge. The compromise is free, or pay for additional facilities such as […]

Is all the equipment included?

Yes – all equipment is provided, the school carries full kit, enough to kit several groups at once, so sizing is rarely an issue.

Cross overs – if I am already a certified Freediver with another agency?

We have a cross over chart so that we can enrol you onto the appropriate course. Also those agencies that are not recognised, we can find fair ways of enrolling you onto the appropriate course and getting value from it. A freediver is a freediver, as well as rules being rules.

What is the minimum age?

18 years to become an AIDA Freediver, if you have parental permission and you are joining with a parent, the age is 16 years of age.

From the time I complete the pool and theory, and do the open water, how long do I have to complete the qualification?

12 months unless you visit us in-between that time and do some refresher training, then it can last another 12 months from that date. It is also possible to be signed off at AIDA 2* Pool Freediver level (you would be charged a nominal fee for the certification if doing it using this method). Most […]

Do I need to be fit to do this course?

You can get fit doing the sport! General health is important for safety, you will get a medical form to fill in, it is a self-declaration form. If you have any significant medical problems (heart/lungs, diabetes, asthma for example) you would need to see a Doctor first to see if the sport was for you. […]

Is there any self-study to do?

We have put together some useful exercises and a reading pack for you to help you during the course. It is not compulsory to do this, however highly recommended.

Do I have to have any previous diving experience to do the AIDA 2 Star Freediver course?

No. It is designed as an entry level qualification, however,
